Poinsettia Poem by Ima Ryma

Poinsettia

The Christmas tale is often told.
In a small town in Mexico,
Young Pepita just six years old,
All by herself she walked to go
To the Nativity scene where
Baby Jesus she hoped to see.
As Pepita walked to the square,
She picked some wild weeds meant to be
Her gift to baby Jesus for
The celebrating of His birth
Weeds wilting, she wished she had more.
Her weeds gift seemed of little worth.

Weeds into Poinsettia became,
: 'Flowers of the Holy Night' fame.
