Poor Todd Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Poor Todd

I have nothing left to offer
Nothing to give that would make me seem less pathetic
Among otter faced girls whose playful antics take a sinister turn
Keeping the ball away, pretending I'm not there
Didn't get the joke when they dragged me out further every time I almost reached the shore

Leave him alone
And don't make it worse by leaving him alone
The right thing to do is to join an activity
But then again he doesn't need forced camaraderie breathing down his neck
Rolling over his silenced body
Weakened by hours spent in the gym that did not increase his social worth

It's Friday night and all he can think of is to sleep without dreaming
A red-eyed nation joins hands to demand a protected period of rest
A sanctuary free of the pressure of joining other humans
Being part of some collective self-destruction
They roll out the red carpet to shortened life expectancy
They send you a letter signed "respectfully, your murderer"
