Popcorn In My Purse Poem by Gabrielle Tastet

Popcorn In My Purse

I know how much you love popcorn and I wanted to surprise you.
So, I went to my pantry and pulled out a bag of popcorn, walked to my purse, unzipped it, put the popcorn in, zipped it back.
I checked the time and went to give you a call. I dialed your number and didn't get to the first ring before I hung up.
I sank to the cushion not far away and sobbed.

Sometimes your absence is a vacuum sucking away all the light and it is impossible to forget but sometimes the love is so profound that it shines all the way from the other side and that becomes all I can remember so I forget that you're gone.
But….I can't take the popcorn out of my purse yet.
