Poppies For Palestine Poem by Mark Heathcote

Poppies For Palestine

A wish made into a dream
Peace, peace, I hope one day will be seen.
Poppies for Palestine
Wounds dressed with iodine.

Coming after bullet traps and snares
Let them grow from desert hearts and tears.
Poppies for Palestine
Swaying in the sunshine

Let them dance cheerily in the breeze.
With a colony of worker honeybees
Let them self-perpetuate.
On a cloudless day, we all anticipate

Let them sear our tearful eyes.
With petals falling and rising like butterflies
Only to bloom again on their journey
Over this horizon, someplace otherworldly.

A wish made into a dream
Peace, peace, I hope one day will be seen.
Poppies for Palestine
Wounds dressed with stinging iodine.
