Pour Toujours. (Translation) . Poem by Michael Walker

Pour Toujours. (Translation) .

Ete 2003.

Tu me dis que je dois perir

Comme les fleurs que je cheris

Rien ne reste de mon nom

Rien qu'on rappelle de mon renom

Mais les arbres que j'ai plantes

Sont encore jeunes

Les chansons que je chantai

Seront encore chantees.

-' Forever'. Johnny Cash 1932-2003) .

Et encore le meme coeur brise

Les lumieres electriques sont allumees apres minuit

Les rideaux fermes toute la journee

Il y a des ennuis sur la montagne

Disent les gens de la vallee

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This lyric is from 'Johnny Cash. Forever Words: The Unknown Poems', p.59. Edited by Paul Muldoon. I have kept the same rhyme scheme in French as the original English.
The poet, the singer Johnny Cash, wonders if there will be anything permanent about his life when he is gone. He concludes:
'The songs I sang/ Will still be sung'. He is so right: 'Ballad Of A Teenage Queen', 'I Walk The Line', 'The Old Account' and many other songs will always be played and sung. I have three compact discs by Cash which I play on the car stereo. He had a great voice.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

This is extremely very beautiful poem. Like the flowers I cherish and I spread fragrance with beauty. Nothing remains here of name or reputation. Trees sing and we too sing. We learn many things from trees. Again a new song we will definitely hear from them. Johnny Cash (1932-2003) has beautifully narrated this excellent poem. Your beautiful translation is definitely beneficial for society....10
