Power Corrupts Poem by Daniel Bernard Kelleher

Power Corrupts

They died that we would have freedom
Would they have done so had they known
The corruption created not their doing
Vibrations been felt in each city and town
Pregnant women been treated as unclean
Imprisoned in mother and baby homes
Behind high walls no one could see
A tragedy no one could foresee
Babies been buried in cesspits
Neither christened or baptised
Hundred of unmarked graves
litter this country side
Church to be held accountable
These we held in high esteem
They instilled the wrath of God
To cower mothers into submission
