Rating: 5.0

Prenez garde! Il vous ajuste pour plus que cela.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is popular in New Zealand. It is about the pressure of salesmen, the 'hard sell'. He advises you to beware the man who tries to get you to buy his idea of a hat, not what you really wanted. The salesman rules out a black hat, as he sees himself wearing it. Instead, he makes for you a coloured hat. But again, takecare, 'He's
fitting you for more than that'.
I find that this type of selling was more common in the 1970s and '80s than it is now. In bigger shops you are free to look around, and try something on if you want to. You don't have to see a salesperson first. Nor would they persuade you to get something different.
Nevertheless, 'Beware the man' makes a statement about buying and selling and it is humorous too. It is a poem I could memorize and recite.

Dictating the color and the form the idea is thought provoking. Taking care of a man who tries to adjust is nice. This poem is definitely very interestingly penned and posted....10

Yes, I think it is witty and also has a serious underlying message. Beware of salesmen. I got caught by a few long ago. One area you still get high pressure selling is on secondhand car yards. You imply that a salesman should not tell the customer the colour and shape to buy and you are right.
