Promises, Promises Poem by Casey Renee Kiser / snail viXen

Promises, Promises

Rating: 5.0

I will always fit into your mailbox,
though I may not always
be in the envelope you'd expect.
I will always drive your speed limit,
though I may not always
stay in between your lines.
I will always be your light switch,
though I may not always turn on.
I will always be the sticky side of the tape,
though I may just be upside down.
I will always find the corners in your circle.
Are you glad to hear?
I will never let a bullet
tango with your breath
or split a single freckle.
Bullets are frozen in air by my cold charm.
And I've got a secret weapon-
my smiles are so few and far between
that they become so powerful!
The distance between them
forms something bulletproof.
I will never let a harsh word tickle your ear.
I will block rude air and be your gossip goalie,
catch it with my hands
and torture it for a reason WHY!
I will never let a snowflake make you shiver
without permission from your sweat.
I will never let anyone else
see the pillows in your eyes
or let them rest their muddy feet
upon your 'dry clean only' heart.
