Puis J'ai Vu Le Probleme. (Translation) . Poem by Michael Walker

Puis J'ai Vu Le Probleme. (Translation) .

Comment est-ce qu'on tourne une fleur du champ,
vetue de lis pour faire a Solomon de regretter sa gloire?
Quel saut s'envole d'ici vers l'evolution,
indiquant le cote a l'eternel perle?
Des ages infinies creerent la fleur et les fleurs ont leurs programmes,
quelle que soit la population du champ-
plus d'une vie entiere pour construire cet aeroport-la.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
See Poem Hunter/ Mark Jarman/ 13/14 for the English.
The situation is a field of flowers lily-like, on which an airport will be built, 'taking more than a lifetime'.
The poem's' imagery begins with the First Book of Kings, when Solomon was anointed King of Israel after David. Jesus refers to Solomon and the lilies: 'not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these'. Matthew: 6: 25-30. Lilies look almost identical, though, nothing special to me.
The last line is very climactic: the practical needs of building an airport-which takes a lifetime-are more important than the flowers of the field.
