Pulling The Plug - Poem by Philip Caldwell

You lie in a painful hibernation.
It seems I however,
am the final judge of your life.
But who am I to play god?
To be death's doppelganger.
Decisions...decisions...

I could end your misery...
Perhaps Winter's chill...
will bring more flowers?
A renewed life of ecstasy
and tranquil damnation...

Or...
You could stay...
in agony with me.
Conditional love...
but love nonetheless.

A decision
so drastic...
I wish you were here...
but you belong there...
The guillotine has given way.
Forgive me...
