Questions & Answers Poem by Dónall Dempsey

Questions & Answers

Outside the rain
haunts the night

as if a ghost
from a past

that no one remembers
or is frightened of.

You lie still

tears run out of your eyes into your ears

you make no attempt
to brush them away

tears form upon tears

locked inside your pain

that locks me
outside of you

I kiss your face
adding my tears to your tears

alone
each
in our separate separateness

we are an answer

longing for a question

we are a question
longing for an answer

where there is

none.
