Ready Or Not - Poem by Stanley Cooper

Ready on the right
Ready on the left
Ready on the firing line
Squeeze the trigger
Hit the target
Combat ready

Ready?

That target had no face
No heart
No feelings

Wasn't someone's son-

Or father-
Or husband-
Or boyfriend-

Couldn't stare back-

Ready?

    a devastating
    tale
    of murder
    compact and powerful
    also true
    a fine poem
