I used to have a doll and she was all I got
She filled my heart with childish joy
Joys that would never last.


I used to have a dog, and it was all I got
It filled my days with gladness
But before long my little dog was gone.


I used to have a friend and he was all I got
He shared with me special moments
Which made 'letting go' very hard.


I used to have you here, and you filled my heart with love
Your presence was a comforting flame
But before long it was time to part.


I used to write a poem, and that was all I got
The poem I wrote was very short
But all the times were sad.
