Reflection - Poem by Michelle Carter Douglass

Sometimes when I lie in bed at night,
I think.
In my bed,
I hear everything.
I hear, what people have said to me.
I hear, the advice given to me.
At times,
when I lie in bed at night,
I think.
In my bed,
it seems as though,
I think of everything.

My mother asked me,
"Are you aware of some of the things you do? "
Momma often asked,
"Do you regret some of your actions you do? "
Mother wondered,
she pondered about consequences of my actions.
She wondered if I would ever emotionally grow.
Truth,
Readers & Friends,
I honestly do not know.

I think about the fairytales I've told.
Pretending I was Cinderella or White as Snow.
I reflect back on the years and spiritual growth.
I think back to my momma's Inquires thereof.
I meditate about this each time I am alone.
Truth,
Readers & Friends,
I am coming to know.

An elder once asked me,
"Why do you run from things? "
Elder enquired of me,
"Have you faced the inner Michelle Denise? "
Elder deliberated,
she contemplated the consequences of my actions.
She doubted if I could ever emotionally grow.
Truth,
Readers & Friends,
At times I do not even know.

I can say I love my kids.
I know my babies are God's ultimate gifts.
I do not know why I make the same mistakes again.
I do not understand why I love the wrong men.
Father, I do not understand this broken reflection.

Sometimes,
when I lie in bed at night,
I think.
In my bed,
I hear everything.
I hear what people have said to me.
I hear the advice and warnings given to me.
At times,
when I lie in bed at night,
I think.
In my bed,
It seems as though,
I am thinking of everything.

Father God,
I lie down here.
I am uncovered.
I am, in my flesh and in my spirit.

In my bed,
imageries of thoughts are racing inside my head.
I am revealed.
I am, in my flesh and in my spirit.

Father God,
Touch me and make me whole.
Kiss me and repair thy soul.
Take the fear from my heart.
Release me Heavenly Father from thy emotional cold.
Father God,
Touch me and thus make me whole.
Kiss me and repair my soul.
When it is time for me to go,
Father,
come and carry me home.

Witty reflection set aside for honest contemplation. A well articulated piece of poetry nicely brought forth from inner recesses of the heart with spiritual insight. Thanks for sharing Michelle. (Report)Reply
