Regrettable Actions Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Regrettable Actions

Forgiving wrongs committed.
Is so much different,
Than excusing those actions...
To have been consciously done.

Negativity created.
And shown introduced.
Produces to cause pain.
Remaining out of sight to see.
Yet one's emotions affected,
Do not have that luxury.

The healing to mend,
Continues to go on...
Beyond a forgiveness given.

Regrettable actions,
To express and confess them.
May with time be forgotten.
By the ones who inflict,
Their thoughtless to address...
Empty headed impulses.

Yet...
It is the act,
Of such impulsive actions.
Left to linger on.
As if to witness,
A devastating storm.
Coming to quickly leave,
An upheaval of debris.
Within sight to see.
Remembered to reminisce,
Over and over.
Regardless...
Of what appears,
On the outside cleared...
Of an effective damage.

It is on the inside.
Where it is known to feel,
What it takes to recuperate...
From a slow process.
Seldom anyone reveals,
When memories come to visit.
Unexpected.
Without invitation.
Or preparation to pretend,
A pain to feel has yet to mend!

Regrettable actions,
Can be forgiven.
Forgetting to forget them?
Few are born,
To have that kind...
Of a selective mind.
Used to avoid and choose,
Which memories to reminisce.
From others to come uninvited!
Refusing to be ignored.
Or be dared to be dismissed.
