Rehabilitation Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Rehabilitation

A freedom sought, a heavy chain undone.
Not for a change, a race that must be run
To shed a skin, become a different soul,
But for release, to make the spirit whole.

The urge, the craving, a relentless tide,
Rehab's a lifeboat, where one can safely ride
Above the storm, to find a clearer shore.
Not to rewrite who you were before.

Your quirks, your laughter, all that makes you, you,
Those bits and pieces, still remain so true.
It's just the wanting, the destructive need,
That rehabilitation helps us supersede.

A fresh beginning, yes, a chance to stand,
But not a stranger in this shifting land.
The past is past, but the self remains,
Freed from the grip of poisonous chains.
