Report From A Commander Of A Ratel Armoured Car (Cavatina)

(after Randall Jarrell)

From my mere childhood I was called-up
to the army,
found myself in walls of armoured steel;
the enemy
roared in with Russian battle tanks,
never free
from projectiles that were exploding,
life was a very rude awakening.
