Resistance Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

Resistance

He has His hand ready to take you
Yet you run away, that's all you do.
"In repentance and rest is your salvation
In quietness and trust is your strength, "
But no, you would have none of it!
You turn to idols and His grace you forfeit!

Your crutches prop you up, drugs and alcohol.
But these just numb you and destroy your soul.
Until you find that the years have gone by,
Leaving you with more questions, mostly "Why? "
When the emptiness stares you in the mirror
And your diagnosis is the big "C" from the doctor-
You've played all your cards, no more winning chance,
Perhaps then you will shed off your...resistance.
