Retirement Poem by Ray Hansell

Retirement

I heard that you retired
You've hung up your gun
You've taken off your badge
You said, I'm finally done

Years of serving the citizens
Putting it all on the line
You performed your job so well
To most you were so kind

You always had a shoulder
Or a helping hand to lend
You were firm when you had to be
At times the law you'd bend

To fellow workers you were a rock
Always there to lend support
You helped in the good times
You helped when others were distraught

You always had a special place
Inside your heart for all
No matter the situation
You, always answered the call

But now your time will be your own
You'll wake up for yourself
They'll be memories forever
Like pictures upon a shelf

But most of all you'll look back
At a job where you had fun
It's takes a very special person
To do the job you had done
