Retreating Poem by Barry Middleton

Retreating

Rating: 5.0

every time love smiled at me
my heart would soon be broken

for every whispered promise made
a pale deceit was spoken

so I retreat into myself
beyond that vagrant notion

to cherish lonely peaceful night
barring a lover's token

the breast of dusk is falling fast
on a wide and silent ocean

as I embrace a dreamer's death
and a necromancer's potion
