Rock And Roll And Rhythm Poem by Paul Amrod

Rock And Roll And Rhythm

Rock and roll and rhythm
Keep that hot beat simmerin‘
Rock and roll and rhythm
Well I was brought up to be nocturnal
My mama never woke me up until the moon was rising
Mornin's evening, Evening's mornin' my way
A Transylvanian dream
Rock and roll and rhythm
Keep that hot beat simmerin‘
Rock and roll and rhythm
Well when the beat starts getting infernal
That's when ev'rybody's bathin' and a-swimmin'
But I put on my leather and go ridin'
My Kawasaki and scream!
Then I gear it up and send it in reversal
That's when I go chasin' and start swingin'
Watch out yeh there is a bad moon arrivin'
I'm goin' out and make up my wildest scene!
So come on over honey and just give me one kiss
You say no! Oh woman why ya treat me like this
Lately you've been acting like a wicked ol' troll
You don't even let your man rock and roll! I say Brrrr! !
So I say our love's no rehearsal
I ain't misbehavin' and my heart's a-clingin'
I don't know lately what ya hidin'
Please honey don't be extreme!
Rock and roll and rhythm
Keep that hot beat simmerin‘
Rock and roll and rhythm
I got an idea for our purpose
There ain't reason to whine
I talked to Bella Legosi
He trained me to learn the sublime!
He told me a secret of passion
And at the end it is som'n cozy
All the kids today find it in fashion
So come on hun catch up with the times.
Rock and roll and rhythm
Keep that hot beat simmerin‘
Rock and roll and rhythm
Now comes the motto of this story
I don't want you to worry
But I find it all boring
So I ask you to listen!
Becoming vampires means that life is eternal
All it means is drinking blood and living in the moonlight
A woman's neck is quite an appetizer
With a little sex as a cream
Rock and roll and rhythm
Keep those hot lights dimmin'
Rock and roll and rhythm
Rock and roll and rhythm!

Vampire Life-style - I don't know how literally you intend the confession of being a vampire? It could be real or it could be a metaphor. Either way it shows an extreme commitment to a nocturnal life-style. You convey the lure of night life, which doesn't take vampirism to be successful; the night is a setting with its own secrets and delights and heightening of experience. I consciously kept rock rhythms in my mind as I read, because music is an integral part of your poem. It has the liberating quality which we adopt under its spell.

This poem comes out of an old hippy rock tune of mine with some cute variations. I wrote the tune in the fall of 1970 and still sing it occassionally. The Rocky Horror picture show had a bit of influence on the Vampire ending. It is simply a wild weekend type of madness. Thanks for reading! ! Greetings, Paul
