Rockwood Poem by Rob Knetsch

Rockwood

so tough, hard as rock
rock hitting rock, hard on hard
which will give in, will crack
breaks up into two parts, or more
just scratching the surface
gives blood under your nails

seems such a solid shape
but flexible, as wood can be
can be shaped when touched sharp
feels smooth as skin after a scrub
but knocking the surface gets you
splinters and bloody hands
