'Route 66' Poem by Juan Olivarez

'Route 66'

I remember, when i was a kid of six,
turning on my t.v. to my favorite show.
a long stretch of high way called 'Route 66'
man that corvette could really go.

Milner later became a cop,
on Adam 12 cruising the streets.
making arrests and traffic stops,
but that did'nt come close to 'Route 66'.

Fifty years later i stopped at 'Roys'
and had a bottle of 'Route beer 66'
just a few miles from the town of Amboy,
and the memories flooded in of 'Route 66'.

In the back was the Dodge, from 'Highway Patrol'
Broderick Crawford used to chase down 'creeps'
fully restored and ready to roll,
I found it all there, on 'Route 66'.

It took fifty years, but i'm finally here,
yes a whole half century, now i'm fifty six.
Sitting at ' Roys' drinking root beer,
and getting my kicks on 'Route 66'.

5/16/10 29 palms ca.
