On way to distant goal
Along a rugged road,
I reached a forked path;
No signboard anywhere,
I knew not where to turn,
I looked for right clues;
One was rising high
With hills on both sides
And moves along straight
Till my eyes could reach
Along a green valley
Till it met horizon;
It was clearly sunny,
Bright and warm around,
But I couldn't surmise
Where it would lead me
Once it reaches horizon,
Certainly downhill,
But where I couldn't guess.
The other looked grey,
Overcast with black clouds,
Short and narrow path
With lands on both sides,
Barren like ice sheets,
And forked again to two
At fifty yards far,
Invisible thereafter.
One promised heaven
Along a bright path;
And another, free choice
After a bleak passage;
No promise of hope in any
Though both meet somewhere
And lead me to my goal;
What route for me is right
To reach the far post?
Which path takes early
Where my eyes were set?
I was on crossroads,
Uncertain where to turn;
Then I saw wise man
Walking along the path;
I approached him and sought
His guidance for passage;
He guided to the latter,
The short and narrow path
Of humble short passage
That opens a new phase
To make new choices soon.
Long and straight from there
And uphill to the heaven,
Go downhill on its path
To level with the world;
Rugged path for a while
Leads free to match with time,
I chose to reach my goal,
Reached there sound and hale.
