Ruined Foundation Poem by Randy McClave

Ruined Foundation

I wanted to build our relationship with cement
She just wanted to build it with lint,
I wanted it to be strong and last forever
She just wanted it to sever.
I wanted a strong foundation of love to last
With the love and care that I had amassed,
But, she didn't care how I felt or what I did say
She just wanted it to blow away.
So, my cement foundation was destroyed
In my soul there was then left an empty void,
No longer was we known as two
She had weakened the blocks and then removed the glue.
Now there is just unrecoverable ruin
From when the lies and unfaithfulness blew in,
I will never ever again rebuild
My desires and love and need I will forever shield.
She's still not ready to settle down
There's still a lot of men in this small town,
And she don't really want to build a relationship at all
And if she did, she would just build it with straw.
Now she builds her relationships with tape
So, she can easily escape,
And now if a new foundation of concrete is ever poured
She will leave her footprints near the baseboard.
