Running Away Poem by Tebogo Tshegofatso

Running Away

Rating: 5.0

I'm leaving my neighborhood,
And all the tender memories
Wedged into my sweet childhood,
Mother will catch my faint sight
As vapor into the uncertainty
Of the big city laden with light,
To my father I sing a sordid song
Which no instrument can sync
Up with, nevertheless it goes on,
Our perpetual conflicts led to
This old bitter mood right here,
And I can hear the spirits say shoo!
My hair is long enough to cover
My two breasts in the midst
Of temptation and a defrauded lover,
My eyes are too big to shine
The way into the great unknown
Which I shall soon call mine,
Tell my little sister her time'll come,
And that the sweetest love can
Be the most deadly and gruesome,
Tell her that I'll be praying for her
In the gutters of that old city,
Wherein all is perfect and fair,
Tell my little brother that women
Aren't as complicated as he feels,
But they're not as simple as men,
But to you, mother and father,
I say my leaving is not hateful-
Our worlds are just different from each other.
Farewell!
