Sad Fact Of Life: Not Everything Is Possible Poem by Paula Glynn

Sad Fact Of Life: Not Everything Is Possible

It is falsehood to presume everything is possible
It gives false hope and hurts feelings
Dreams seldom coming true with daily dealings
For those regular people who do what they must do.

The daily grind of shopwork and office work
Hoping, wishing and praying to win the lottery
The odds stacked against regular people
The chances of winning slim to none.

The blind never able to paint like Michaelangelo Buonarroti
The deaf never able to compose and perform music
The ugly never able to be a famous model
The woman with crooked and yellow teeth unable to sell lipstick.

Those squeamish about blood unable to be a surgeon
Those unable to read and write unable to write books
Those skipping school unable to go to university
Those who fear crowds unable to head concerts.

Those terrified of flying on airplanes
Unable to travel the world with comfort and ease
Those scared of heights unable to go rock climbing
Those scared of speed unable to go on rollercoasters.

Someone at 45 years old living in a one-bedroom apartment
Unlikely to inherit a mansion
Unlikely to gain worldwide fame
Unlikely to become a world-famous singer.

Like saying you can fly and jumping off a tall building
Your 'everything' not including the ability to fly
Like saying you can hold your breath for 5 minutes
And swimming to the bottom of the ocean.

The list goes on: not everything in life is possible
Like a fish riding a bicycle or aliens landing
And it takes patience and understanding
That what one can do another cannot.
