Sally Hemmings Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Sally Hemmings

Sally Hemings

Jefferson
For long
-even today
Has been a man of respect
-no
We never met
-no
We never shook hands
-no
We never drank his favourite wine
-never…never…never!

Like others of my age
I know him via hearing
-and reading…

Learning that he had
-Sally Hemings
For his ejaculation
For his comfort
-most probably one sided
Can make us rethink…

She was a woman that he
-as the report says
Used from the age of fourteen
Right from childhood

And he did to her
-anything
-anything
-anything he wanted...

Without her being able to resist…
She knew not that she could…
That is what slavery meant…

Slave meant being
A sheep, cow…donkey
Not even a dog…
With a bark!
