Salmon Portland Chase Poem by Hannington Mumo

Salmon Portland Chase

A great brain to be ever remembered

As long as history is;

A beacon that stood in an extraordinary way

When all the rest prostrate lay;

A self-made man of no blue-blood descent

Who strove to give the Negro his trampled peace;

Before it was birthed the blessed day!

When all the rest prostrate lay;

Who strove to give the Negro his trampled peace;
