Salvation Poem by Dewald Viljoen

Salvation

Rating: 2.1

Are you my salvation?
Or am I yours?
You push me away,
When I know that you are in need.
I keep quiet,
When you know I have to speak.
We share the night,
But we try to survive it alone.
I hardly touch you,
Yet you always shy away.
I live in constant fear,
Of your fragile emotions.
Always careful of the next words I speak:
Will they make you hurt?
Will they make you laugh?
And when they hurt,
Do you know that it tears me apart?
And when they make you laugh,
Don’t you know that I have impeccable timing?

Our silence is always awkward
Yet we share the sadness so comfortably,
So believe me when I say,
When you cry, my whole soul weeps,
For I have known the pain.
When you laugh my spirit soars,
Because I have also known the joy.
Are you better for meeting me,
Or am I the only one who has gained?
Do you need salvation,
Or are you the saviour?
