Same Old Familiar Story Poem by Carolyn Brunelle

Same Old Familiar Story

Finally the light dawneth on a new day.
You eventually learned a whole new way
to walk a vastly different road
but old habits die hard.
You are re-captured beneath that load.
Soon you are back to your old bag of tricks
doing stupid things and getting your kicks.
Sometimes we learn, but can't make the change
from lovin' the old to beginning anew;
frankly, I'm aching with disappointment for you.
But all the things I want, isn't the real issue
as much as who you are, just doing what you do.
