Same Wishes. Poem by Charles M Moore

Same Wishes.

I watched the plasma screen last night
the colours bold the picture bright
something I took for granted
what I needed, what I wanted
I felt part of the picture
in the blend, part of the mixture
then sadness coulouring my eyes
as women begged and babies cried
starvation of the masses
brought to me through coloured glasses
my tears dropped down like atom bombs
a testimony to the wrong
we' ve learned nothing in our time
technology improves the crime
inflicted onto others
but it often makes me wonder
if the politicians love of power
is reflected in the darkest hours
of those who only want to live
with dignity upon the earth
I know that good is part of man
I know he loves, I know we can
we may be different races
but it shows in all our faces
if we cheat and lie and kill
what victory does that instill
upon our higher graces
when we all have the same wishes.
