എനിക്ക് വെളുത്തതും ചുവന്നതുമായ
പനിനീർപ്പൂക്കൾ കൊണ്ടുവന്നുതരൂ
ഈ ലോറൽപത്രങ്ങൾ കൊണ്ടുപോകൂ;
ഭാരിച്ച *പത്രകിരീടത്തിൻ കീഴിൽ ഞെരിയു-
മെൻ ശിരസ്സിൽ പനിനീർപ്പൂമകുടമണിയിക്കൂ.
'ശിശിരവനമാകെത്തേടി, എവടെയും
കിട്ടിയില്ലൊരു പനിനീർപ്പൂപോലും
കിട്ടിയതിത്തിരി **കൊടിത്തൂവയാണ്,
അത് ചുരുളായി മുടിയിൽ ചൂടിക്കൊള്ളു'.
മെയ്മാസത്തിൽ ഞാൻ റോസാപ്പൂക്കൾ പറിക്കാറില്ല
പകരം, ലോറൽപത്രങ്ങളിൽ കിരീടം നെയ്തണിഞ്ഞു.
പിന്നീട് ലോറലിലക്കിരീടം ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുമ്പോൾ
അവരെനിക്ക് കൊണ്ടുതരുന്നത് വിഷവള്ളിയാണ്
പനിനീർപ്പൂക്കൾ മരിച്ചുകഴിഞ്ഞു.

This poem is Malayalam Translation of the poem "Roses And Rue" by Sara Teasdale

Notes:
* the word used by the poet is ‘bay'= a garland or crown especially of laurel given as a prize for victory or excellence. This idea is not fully captured in my translation.
**the word used by the poet is "rue". Rue denotes ‘poison ivy', which is specific to Europe. It is not കൊടിത്തൂവ (kodithoova) , but I have chosen to use this word instead of വിഷവള്ളി here to convey the contrast from rose flower effectively. But, I have to admit that the whole meaning of rue is not conveyed. The other meaning of ‘rue' (=regret, remorse, repentance) is also relevant to the context.
