Sara Teasdale 96 - മാംസനിബദ്ധം

Rating: 5.0

മൃഗം മൃഗത്തോടർത്ഥിക്കുകയാണ്,
ആത്മാവ് കാത്തിരിക്കാനായി സ്വയം കുനിഞ്ഞ്കൊടുക്കുന്നു;

This is a Malayalam Translation of the poem "Vox Corporis" by Sara Teasdale. The title translates into English as "Voice of the Body", but I have captioned the translation as "Call of the Flesh", which translates the spirit of the poem.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
"Vox Corporis' explores the struggle between animal instincts and cultured behaviour. The beast, representing the untamed passions, urges the soul to surrender to its desires, while the soul, representing civilization and reason, holds back. This poem stands out from Teasdale's other works in its animalistic and frank language. It reflects the loosening of societal norms during the early 20th century. The poem's symbolism is stark and effective. The beast represents unrestrained passion and desire of the body, while the soul symbolizes reason and self-control. The conflict between these two forces drives creates a sense of internal struggle. The language of the poem is sensual and evocative, with references to the 'sweet' rush of the beast and the 'wary' nature of the soul. The use of alliterative phrases such as 'lord of the jungle' and 'sweet' adds a rhythmic and haunting quality to the poem. Ultimately, 'Vox Corporis' is a meditation on the enduring battle between our primal selves and the expectations of a civilized society. While we may yearn for unrestrained freedom, we are ultimately bound by the constraints and responsibilities of the si-called civilization. But we have seen how the whole edifice crumbles.
