Save Gaza From Ruthlessness - Israel-Hamas War Must Stop Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

I can travel the whole world without delay
but I cannot accept the sight of inhumanity
which is so rampant in Gaza
where thousands of people have died
and many still face the wrath;
where families keep fleeing from homes
in search of safety and food;
where children keep sleeping cold and hungry
while their shelter are make-shift tents;
where menfolk keep struggling for existence
where hospitals keep getting attacked
by bombs that keep falling without any warning;
homes destroyed, life in pieces
as bodies keep getting buried in graves,
so many laid to rest side by side;
has humanity forgotten its loyalty and duty
to let live and give others a chance to exist?

And as voices keep shouting to stop the war
some countries keep taking sides to let it go on;
leaders keep labelling it as genocide
yet no one has courage neither the urgency
to curb the war which is so filled with cruelty.

O' to think of the women and their children
and how they have lost their comforts
and warmth of their homes
that on the streets they sit and sleep
like wanderers lost in the desert
just because one mind decided to punish them
when the fault-lines have been there for years
and when peace was swaying its wings
deliberating what belongs to whom?

Yet I know how it feels to see a child getting
injured or maimed that no consolation
permits forgiveness or clemency
to those who destroy others peace and life
and take tragedies to the extreme limits;
and as death keeps pulling its rope
hundreds of people facing jeopardy,
loss of lives and hopes of peace.

How will I choose to travel the world
when in my eyes is anguish
and in my heart is pain as I hear
the sufferings in Gaza have not ceased.

Will the genocide be so fashionable
that the helpless women and children
will silently catwalk thro' the streets
to escape death while their neighbors
lay their dead to rest?

Will the older womenfolk keep running
with their blankets and a few belongings
so that they see the light of the next dawn
while their sons have already
closed their eyes forever fighting
for their identity as Palestinians?
