Scorched Poem by Robert Sheridan

Scorched

Vanquished - consumed by regrets/regrettable
Shake hands with icy fingers - stay lit/belittled
Lead in hot irons - scorched by more fires/tangibles
Life flickered out – light of their face/dispersed
Shallow compliments/ground unhallowed
Life inside me buried – hearse/rehearsed
Fragments kindled/rekindled
New tale to unfold - nuptials postmarked/resale
To relive again – at night toss & toss/tearful
In morn – chin-up/chip off the old block; sinful?
Let’s see now – mentality, scruples ... naïve/delightful
Pray to God – unscarred heaven; other choice - sulfurous wake
If haste – slain again? /apprehensive – moth around the flame
Disgruntled look – face to sink a thousand slip(s) -ups
Hesitation – sense of another love lost – shock & grief
Time renders like a processing plant – scorched cinderhella
All blackened but inside perfectly sound – yeah right!
Summed-up: suffered from lack of love – heart de-gloved,
Next one to the plate – batter-up!
