That my growing Scots wordbook
is the glossary at the back of my Burns,
I here admit.
It grows when I come
across a word in my Chambers
that isna in m'Robbie's doup.
Of wonder to me
is that he didn't use shilpit,
for weak, puny,
insipid and watery;
and why low is laigh,
but high is hie not haigh,
or why high is hie,
but low is laigh, not lie.
