Sean And Mary's Black Roosters Poem by Francis Duggan

Sean And Mary's Black Roosters

Sean and Mary's six young Australorp black roosters in beauty does not lack
Beautiful red combs and feathers so shiny and black
But most roosters are born to die young as everyone should know
And in their wired pen in the backyard they are on death row

As is with all roosters they do love to crow
And with six roosters crowing together the noise volume grow
Even before dawn they are wide awake
And they do seem to crow their loudest at daybreak

Even for black Australorp they are of a great size
But that they are on death row they do not realize
The majority of roosters are raised for their meat
And the white flesh of young fowl is quite delicious to eat

The fact of the matter and fact never lie
Is Sean and Mary's black roosters are destined to die
Doubtless they will be quite tasty in a chicken pie
Though death it also does await you and I.
