Searching... - Poem by B.. Alexander

There's a strange glow humming in the dusk
A flourescent flicker in my loneliest hour
Are you the sunrise I've been dreaming of
Oh, I rush these things sometimes

So is it months or years away from me
I want it in my bed by end of the day
Are you the daylight I've been searching for
Oh, I push these things sometimes

The weak light's splintered in my tears
Walking down these freezing streets alone
Twisting on a hunger so all-consuming
Can there be an end to this tunnel of sadness

It's so hard to keep the faith some nights
They all say 'it's out there somewhere'
I'm clinging to the hope of some blinding light
Can there be an end to this tunnel of sadness

This aimless dusk cuts deep into my pale skin
As I sit in restaurants, at tables 'for one'
Thinking of all the joy I used to bathe in daily
If only there was someone shining here to save me

My sweetest love I tossed away for this
The lessons learned must be memorised now
This freedom feels so worthless some nights
If only there was someone shining here to save me

Oh girl
Are you the sunrise
I've been dreaming of
Oh lady
Are you the daylight
I've been searching for?
Oh woman
Are you the royalty
I've been banking on?

She turns to me, smiles gently and breathes
'When the daylight comes; you'll drink it like wine
But like wine, you must wait for the right time
Until then, hold your knuckles looser
And just learn to love the searching for'

So until then, I'll keep searching for
I'll learn to love the searching for
Readying myself for that golden daylight
That I know must be out there somewhere...
