Second Lament For Garcia Lorca

Rating: 5.0

for the poet Federico Garcia Lorca

for that which is green and gone

and most especially for the pear green winds

the jade winds that carried the music far

words must be spoken or sung

and reverentially

for that which was beautiful in its time

and yet sad

for the laments kept under

the heart's broken wing

for the angel that was going to mend

what it is not time yet to mend on earth

let the green word be spoken

recalling the green wind

the poems light as leaves on the wind

and grieving

the word glistening and then gone

as sudden moonlight dips into a cloud

as a Spanish guitar is abandoned

not knowing the tune anymore

and left in dewy nightfall

to be strummed by the long fingers of the rains

of sobbing shadows redundant

for some things cannot be recalled

back to life on this earth

for some things can barely be mourned

because then tears would have to rain down

ceaselessly.

and who among us could live that long.
