Self Censorship Poem by Deluke Muwanigwa

Self Censorship

Self Censorship

They say if you live by the sword you die by the sword
I live by the word and will die by the word

Words make the world a better place
when arranged in an order which conjures images making the world ponder

Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones
Those wielding the power of words should make them flowery

And yet I used to think freedom of expression trumps all censorship
and built a home whose foundation was words

and used words as my sword
only to realise the world of words
can ignite an inferno beyond the hearth.

Now, from the bottom of my heart
I realise words build a better home in this world
with self censorship
