Self Imposed Outsiders Poem by Francis Duggan

Self Imposed Outsiders

If you are good at playing football or cricket you will at least know of local renown
And be admired as famous in your rural hometown
But if you do not play any sport or sing or play music few know of you by name
Most non sporting or non entertainer people are strangers to fame
Those who are not involved in clubs in their local community
Are self imposed outsiders is how it seems to be
Humanity is built on tribes is how it does seem
Their community's recognition and acknowledgement seems quite healthy for some people's self esteem
In every community there are fringe dwellers those who do not fit in
Looked on as the people not born to win
They do not play sport or play music or dance or sing
One might say of them they just does their own thing
In their hometown as outsiders they do remain
Perhaps their non tribal ways for this does explain.
