Serious Blues - Poem by Heather Z. Hanna

My emotions run
Like the sea to the shore.
Rising up high
Retreating so low.
My strength comes, too, in waves
Upon the shifting sands of the day.
When I'm up, I'm strong.
When I'm down, I drown
Sputtering back to sanity and reality
As each hour passes.

So wild is my heart and head
So steady is my intent.
Yet not knowing is like being
Squeezed and not breathing.
Then in flows the water again
And I can breathe
The fresh wind that blows on my face.
