Shades Of Blue Poem by Alice Kriel

Shades Of Blue

Warm inside and then the light
Baby-blue and they tuck you in at night
“Nothing to fear, we’ll always be here”
They hold your hand and they hold you tight.

Sneaking around and give the guys a light
Blue movies and staying awake all night
“Nothing but the best chicks at the joint here”
You take your hand and you hold her tight.

Locking the doors and switching off the light
Blue pyjamas and tuck the kids in at night
“Nothing you do is right, get out of here! ”
She lies alone and holds her pillow tight.

Your back aches and your hair’s gone light
Blue pills and take your medicines at night
“Nothing to worry about, sir, Doctor will be right here”
He takes your blood pressure and holds your wrist tight.

Cold all over and then the light
Blue skies and the blackest night
“Nothing to fear, Son, come over here”
He enfolds in his perpetual embrace and holds you tight.

Well there's a pained walk through life! (apart from verse 1, that is) . Succinctly but fully and of course, forcefully-depicted journey. Warmly, Gina.
