Shadowed Memory. Poem by Temperance Joy

Shadowed Memory.

Rating: 2.0

'He touched me.'
A painfull realization.
For a child,
A forbidden conversation.
And when words cannot express
You push the act further back
And begin remembering it less
The pictures fade away
But wounds remain the same
For the child; now a troubled teen
Hiding is more than just a game.
Hiding from the truth
Becomes a way of life.
Lying makes it easier
To cope with the pain and strife.
Pretending is convienient
Because reality's unpleasant.
Darkness doesn't help
The past is luminescent.
It glows as a painful reminder.
Of a memory long forgotten
How could my path be crossed
With someone's path so rotten.
The memory remains in shadows
As far as life will go.
It lurks around dark corners
As the fear inside me grows.
