Shards Poem by Mario, Lucien, Rene Odekerken

Shards

The cup slips,
ceramic shatters,
a sharp gasp,
then silence.

Pieces scatter across the floor,
jagged edges catching light,
reflecting what was hole,
what is now many.

Fingers hesitate,
hoever over brokenness,
a choice-
to gather or to leave.

Some shards are too fine to hold,
too small to see,
but they remain,
waiting underfoot.
