Shared Sorrow Poem by Edwina Reizer

Shared Sorrow

She forbid me to see him,
my mama did.
She said he was no good.
He was lazy. He was crazy.
He would do me wrong.
I guess if I listened like I should
I wouldn't be cryin'
and feel kike dyin'
and singin' a sorrowful song.

She never said 'I told you so.'
She just held me tight
and let me cry my tears.
'Cause my mama knew
what I was goin' through
for she remembered all the years
that she'd been cryin'
and felt like dyin'
'cause my papa left her too.
