She Didn't Use The Phone Poem by Belle Wassermeister

She Didn't Use The Phone

Rating: 5.0

She called for help today,
but didn't use the phone.
Did not have much to say,
for she was all alone.

We didn't see the signs,
but they were surely there.
Must read between the lines
if we sincerely care.

She had no will to live,
yet no one knew but she.
We have so much to give,
but when it's time, will we?

She had a lot to say,
but she was all alone.
She called for help today,
but didn't use the phone.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM

Belle, your lovely heart is needed in our world now perhaps more than ever---loneliness in the time of Covid has caused many to end themselves---or others---may we all be more alert to the signs of a human floundering in silent misery
