She's Always My Woman Poem by gershon hepner

She's Always My Woman

There’s no other pigeonhole in which to shove her:
she’s always my woman, and that’s why I love her,
and if it should happen that I find another,
she’d give me more problems, so why should I bother?
I’ll stick to her always, through thick and through thin,
though looking for others is surely no sin.

She’s led me to love, which I’ve given and taken,
and when I am with her I don’t feel forsaken;
what I get from her always is free, and I’m proud
that I’m number one on her list, and allowed
to write about her with my tongue in my cheek,
and praise her amazing physique and technique.

She looks after herself, because I’m not able
to care for her properly––I’m too unstable;
although she’s my woman, I’m not her provider,
and she is the source of my cakes, ale and cider
and whisky and wisdom, all which I am lacking
without her. I hope that she won’t send me packing.

Inspired by Billy Joel’s “She’s Always a Woman”:

She can kill with a smile
She can wound with her eyes
She can ruin your faith with her casual lies
And she only reveals what she wants you to see
She hides like a child,
But she's always a woman to me

She can lead you to love
She can take you or leave you
She can ask for the truth
But she'll never believe
And she'll take what you give her, as long as it's free
Yeah, she steals like a thief
But she's always a woman to me

CHORUS:
Oh-she takes care of herself
She can wait if she wants
She's ahead of her time
Oh-and she never gives out
And she never gives in
She just changes her mind

And she'll promise you more
Than the Garden of Eden
Then she'll carelessly cut you
And laugh while you're bleedin'
But she'll bring out the best
And the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself
Cause she's always a woman to me
