Shortage Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Shortage

Many less reminisce.
A past to have live it.
Left to have learned,
A wealth of lessons.
To them taught.

Yet others seem,
To repeatedly wish...
They, if it possible, could sit,
In classrooms where they joked.
Refusing to listen.
Or pay attention as the teacher spoke.
And today unprepared,
To use a tool.
From their days spent,
Being someone's fool.

And in these times many find,
They could care less.
Although quickly to express their sorrows.
To blame on others.
Hoping empathy to get.

Today there appears a shortage of leadership.
Disciplined and competent.
Learning to listen.
And encouraged to do this.
Growing to expose their undenied confidence.
Although...
This growth to expose it,
Seems to be these days despised.
Since reliable expertise,
Has gone unrecognized by those not wise.

Fired they are.
Those daring to be confident with competence.
Fired they are.
Those proving they acquired,
Qualities of leadership.
Fired they are.
For embarrassing the ones,
Giving image to imitate what a leader is.
And this in these times of urgent need,
Leadership to exhibit this...
Is made to abandon this position to leave.
Yet cheers are always given,
From the people who know true heros.
Like...
Captain Brett Crozier!
Defending humanity.
When few are left to be up to the challenge!
